LONDON (Reuters) – Captain Wayne Rooney and midfielder Michael Carrick are fit for Manchester United’s Premier League game at Everton this weekend, manager Louis van Gaal told a news conference on Friday. Both missed England’s two matches during the international break and the Dutchman wants them back as United attempt to put a demoralising 3-0 defeat against Arsenal behind them. “We cannot accept it. We’ve spoken about this. It cannot happen again,” he said. “We want to be the champions, so we must behave like champions. You have to improve every time. “It is not only the players it is the staff, all the members of the staff. “Everton is also a difficult opponent. Of course I’m confident, because I have seen the training sessions and the reaction of my players. “But you cannot be sure it will be the result that you want.” Van Gaal said that because the international break came immediately after a defeat, with so many players away, it had been “an awful two weeks”. United had been top of the table after three successive wins but dropped to third after losing to Arsenal, two points behind leaders Manchester City. <strong>Brief History</strong>

Manchester United is regarded as one of the oldest football clubs in the Premier League. The team was formed in 1878, but under the name?Newton Heath LYR Football Club. It was only in 1902 that it was officially named Manchester United.

The Red Devils are arguably the most successful team in the Premier League. This was even back when the League was known as the Football League.

From 1945 onward, after the second World War, it was also the beginning of one of the greatest eras of Manchester United. In other words, it was the era of the 'Busby Babes'. However, in 1958, the rampant Busby Babes were halted in their tracks, by the Munich Air disaster, which claimed the lives of eight players. However, Matt Busby managed to rebuild the team once again.

Then, from 1986 to 2013, the next great Manchester United era began. Namely, the Sir Alex Ferguson era, where the Red Devils were dominant. Although they had a sluggish start, they came into their own in the 1990s.

Currently, after going through a few managers like David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. Finally, the team has settled with United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Premier League has two transfer windows- Summer and Winter, where clubs can buy players. The summer transfer window generally over two months long, which begins and ends before the start of the season, while the winter transfer window is the mid-season window, which lasts the month of January.

The 2019-20 Premier League was the first season to incorporate a winter break, which has always been included in major leagues across Europe. This came up after much debate about the Premier clubs having a disadvantage in the UEFA Champions League over clubs from other leagues, who come fresh from a winter break.

In February 2020, the Premier League saw one round of matches played over two weekends, with five matches on the weekend commencing February 8, and five on the weekend commencing on February 15.

After a not-so-thrilling title race last season against Manchester United, Manchester City emerged victorious for the Premier League title.
