How did Tiger Woods leave a tour pro disappointed?

Tiger Woods was competing in his first-ever Ryder Cup in 1997. Until then, he had become a huge name in the golfing world. Zane Scotland, who is a former European Tour pro and currently a top UK golf instructor, had visited the 1997 Ryder Cup especially to see Tiger Woods.

“We arrive on the first day,” said Zane. “Dad’s like, let’s go and watch some of these matches.” However, Zane said, “No, we got to go and find Tiger. He’s out on 12 or whatever it was. So we trek all the way out there, get a spot on the tee. So I’m about 13 or 14 years old and can rustle through the crowds to get to the front.”

Furthermore, he said he had never seen Tiger in real life before, and he was like a hero to him. “And he comes through, and he gets on the tee, a 2-iron comes out. I’m down the line and right behind him, watching it. And he hits his 2-iron, he snaps hooked it into a tree about 150 yards off the tee. And I was like, is this some sort of joke?”

Hence, in this way, Zane was left disappointed as Tiger’s tee shot was abysmal. But that’s fine as even the greats of the game don’t hit every shot to perfection.
