Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray faces the former World No.4 Kei Nishikori in the opening round of the 2021 San Diego Open. To be played at the Barnes Stadium, the match is scheduled to happen on 28th September. Both players have entered the ATP-250 event as wildcards and it would be the 12th chapter in their rivalry.

Murray leads Nishikori 9-2 in their head-to-head meetings. The duo last faced each other at the quarterfinals of the 2017 French Open, a match which Murray won in four sets.
