Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez had a confrontation with a team-mate during Chile’s underwhelming 1-0 Friendly win over El Salvador.

The fight was apparently over a free-kick which Arsenal’s Player of the Year took away from the designated set-piece taker Marcelo Diaz of Hamburger SV.

As described by one of the witness to Chilean newspaper El Mercurio that Sanchez amd Diaz almost threw punches at each other, before captain Gary Medel intervened.

“Other teammates had to get between them so that they didn’t come to blows.

“Sanchez squared up to Diaz, shouting at him for not giving him the ball.

“[Diaz] shouted back; he told him to let everyone else play and not be so greedy. Furthermore, he chastised Alexis for missing a training session.”

Naturally Sanchez was asked about this at a press conference and though he did admit that the incident took place but played down to be anything serious.

“We’re all good,” Sanchez said. “It was an exchange of opinions, like [the media] loves, it’s normal.

“Everything’s sorted, there’s no fight and we are all calm, they’re things that happen in a match.”

Hosts Chile play their first match of the Copa America against Ecuador on Thursday.
