Nico Rosberg brings Mercedes back as chart toppers after using their first set of soft compound tyres in the pre-season testing, today at day 2 of the second Barcelona Test. Rosberg produced a time of 1m22.792s in late afternoon, 0.7s quicker than Felipe Massa who set the previous best on Thursday. He completed 106 laps today which consisted mostly long runs and race stimulation.

Force India finally broke its cover today and unleashed their VJM08. Nico Hulkenberg finished at the bottom of the table as he was 5.6s off the pace. The team was more focused on reliability as they have missed most of the pre-season testing.

Williams claimed top spot yesterday, with Felipe Massa setting the fastest time. Today Valtteri Bottas was the challenger today finishing second with 1.2s off the pace and completing 90 laps by the end of the day.

McLaren and Jenson Button had the best day of testing this year after finishing 5th on the charts. Button clocked up 101 laps – nearly half the total McLaren has achieved in nine previous days of testing combined. McLaren stopped between turn 7 and turn 8 in late evening bringing out red flag and ending their trouble-free run.

Sauber’s Felipe Nasr was quickest in the morning after a soft tyre run, ended the day third fastest with 1.279s off the leader. He showed good mileage as finished 141 laps by the end of the day.

Four time world champion Sebastian Vettel finished 4th in his Ferrari with the best time of 1m25.339s. He clocked the most number of laps today-143.

Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen was seventh, but an electrical problem forced the team to stop running with around an hour to go.

Daniil Kvyat was eighth quickest for Red Bull with 4s off the pace. He caused the first red flag of the day when he stopped at the first corner during the afternoon session.

Lotus’ Pastor Maldonado stopped at the pit entry towards the end of the day bringing yet another red flag. He ended his day at sixth position and finished 140 laps.
