SENSATIONAL! Venus Williams Captures Her First Win in 3 Years at Wimbledon Championships

The Wimbledon Championships 2021 have just begun, and Venus Williams found herself up against Romanian player Mihaela Buzarnescu in her first-round match. Prior to today, both players had faced each other once, and it was the American player who emerged victorious. Today, too, Williams came on top, winning the match 7-5 4-6 6-3.

Set 1: Composed Venus Williams races ahead

As the match began, Venus was serving with more intent and at the same time, maintaining consistency. She managed to win 78% of her first-serve points. In the end, the one break she got in the 10th game of the set helped her get the advantage.

She consolidated the break and served out the set, thus inching closer towards the finishing line. Both players were feeling nervous towards the business end and even when the American player was serving for the set, she had to raise her level to win the game and set 7-5.

Set 2: Mihaela Buzarnescu puts up a fight

The American star began serving in the following set. However, Mihaela Buzarnescu had other plans and broke in the very first game. After that, she consolidated the break and took a 2-0 lead. 

Similar to the first set, the one break was enough for the Romanian player to seal the set and send the match into a decider. Mihaela won the set 6-4. 

During the set, the Romanian player won 33 points whereas Venus won 26 points. Overall, Mihaela served more efficiently and committed fewer unforced errors.

Set 3: Experienced Venus Williams sails smooth

Williams began serving and held her opening service game. As the match was approaching the two-hour mark, the five-time champion got the early break and was sitting on a 2-0 lead. She consolidated the break after holding her serve. 

In the fifth game, Williams managed to hold serve after a tough display from her opponent. In the following game, the Romanian player was broken for the second time. Williams was in touching distance from winning the match. In the end, she fought off a scare and won the set 6-3 to claim what is her first Wimbledon win in three years.

The American veteran will face Tunisian player Ons Jabeur in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships 2021 on Thursday. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
