Serena Williams recently relied on sizzling hot chicken to reveal her inner thoughts about the sport. The American WTA legend is currently on a promotional tour for her upcoming docuseries “In the Arena: Serena Williams” and made a surprise appearance on ‘Hot Ones’. While the show is lauded for its uniqueness, the legend’s responses aligned similarly, as she mistakenly thought it was just a year ago that she won four grand slams in a row!

Serena Williams recently made a memorable appearance on ‘Hot Ones’ with Sean Evans. The show’s unique setup puts guests through an interview that they enjoy along with savoring delicious spicy chicken. During the show, Evans asked the tennis legend about her most intense match against older sister Venus Williams. Although Serena recalled the 2003 Australian Open final, she initially misspoke the year 2023. This gave hints of the fact that tennis still holds a share in her heart.

“The most intense match for me was Australia 2023—I mean, goodness, 2003. That final was huge because it was the first time I could win four Grand Slams in a row, which would be dubbed the Serena Slam,” she said, pointing at a golden time in her career when she won the French Open, Wimbledon, US Open in 2002 and then finally the Australian Open in 2003 against Venus.

The legend continued to narrate the story, noting that “the match was tough because Venus played really well.” She took several moments to reveal that the second episode of her upcoming documentary would contain a deep dive into her on-court interactions with Venus.

However, Serena always stood as a strong supporter of her older sister despite their fierce competition on the court. In an interview earlier this year, Venus revealed how Serena is the reason why she’s still not retired. “My little sister, Serena, told me I’m not allowed to quit, and of course, I would never quit. But it’s the mandate. She said no, so I will be back on the court,” Venus said.

Venus last competed at the Miami Open but unfortunately lost in the first round. As she dropped a hint of having the memories fresh in her mind, it was just another instance where the fact that she misses tennis was discussed.

Former pro reveals how Serena Williams still misses the sport

Serena Williams’ absence on the tennis courts is noted every now and then. The American WTA legend left a legacy behind that is not only remembered but is also frequently discussed. In a recent episode of Serving Aces, Alexandra Stevenson talked about how Serena is keeping herself away from the sport but still has a heartfelt connection with it.

“Even though she has all this stuff, and all these companies, she really misses tennis. And so that part of her that misses the practice and the training and everything that was relatable to every professional tennis player that stops playing, because it’s like a piece of you that’s been there forever,” the 43-year-old said.
