Serena Williams Reveals How She Invests Into Companies

Serena Williams is a great tennis player but she is an equally successful businesswoman. However, over the years, she has also developed a reputation as a credible investor.

Her investment firm Serena Ventures has helped many companies owned by minorities and women to get off the ground. That’s why it would be a dream for a small business to get the backing of Serena Williams. However, it’s not just money that drives Serena to make her investments.

There are a host of factors that go into her decision making. She revealed all of them in a recent interview. One things is clear, the business certainly needs to be socially responsible in order to attract Serena Williams.

What did Serena Williams say?

Serena revealed that diverse leadership and women empowerment were two key planks that motivated her. They need to be there in order for her to help the company.

“First of all, we look at companies that embrace diverse leadership. So that’s one of the first things we look at. Individual empowerment and create opportunity, they have to have that. Like I said, we focus on early stage, a lot of our companies they can be B2B companies, or consumer companies or they could be things that bring innovation to the world.”

“Our model of investment is more or less listen, we are investing in the founder, the diverse leadership. We want to make sure that there are plenty of women who have an opportunity to have a company that are looked at and are seen. So, one thing, the reason that I started, I did investments before but ai didn’t have Serena Ventures so the reason that I started is at the time I saw less than two percent of women in the companies were backed by VC’s. So I said, listen I don’t have a VC fund, but I can start doing something.”

That’s a fantastic philosophy to invest in a business. These would attract businesses to create more diverse workplaces. This is what is the aim of Serena Williams in making such distinct investment choices.
