Williams has not won a single Grand Slam title since her return in 2016. The 23-time Grand Slam winner last won the ASB Classic in the early stages of 2020. Since then, she didn’t perform well at either the Australian Open 2020 or the US Open 2020. Her injury ruled her out of the Roland Garros 2020.

It’s not just the cover star that matters to the magazine, but also the message that he or she is propagating. British Vogue wrote a beautiful description for Williams. It said, “At 39, the sports icon has a career that, for longevity and impact, is almost without parallel. Hard-won victories on the tennis court, one match after another over a quarter-century career, have left Serena standing triumphant. She is the most successful female tennis player of the Open Era.”
Along with appreciating Serena’s prowess at tennis, the iconic magazine also lauded Williams for speaking against injustice and for inspiring many youngsters, and said, “Serena is also a mother and a businesswoman. She is also a mother and a businesswoman, and – as is evident in her interview with Olivia Singer – a vocal advocate for justice of many years standing.”
