Serena Williams To Play Rome Masters 2019

The dominant athlete of all times, Serena Williams pulled out from both the events of the ‘Sunshine Double’ pertaining to her illness at Indian Wells where she retired in the match against Garbine Muguruza and due to a knee injury at the Miami Open 2019.

However, the World Number 11 tennis player, Serena Williams has confirmed her return to the courts of Rome for the Italian Open. She has previously won the Italian Masters title four times in her career in 2002, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Ever since Serena Williams defeated her compatriot, Madison Keys in the 2016 Rome Masters final she has not stepped on her one of the favorite surfaces on tour.

Last year, Serena Williams did not participate in the Rome Masters since she had a poor run at the ‘Sunshine Double’ last year and she directly joined the circuit for the Roland Garros. The year before that, in 2017 Serena Williams announced her pregnancy after her Australian Open eminence and eventually took a hiatus from the WTA tour.

Since the time, she delivered her first baby, Serena has failed to clinch a title on the women’s tour. However, she reached two Slam finals, ameliorated her rankings and stepped on again to the top ten table of WTA. The WTA track of tennis is usually sporadic with their rankings, but however, in her two-decade-old service, Serena Williams has kept herself dwelling within the top rankings. Also, she is the oldest tennis player in the Open Era to be ranked as World Number one.

Besides Serena, her elder sister Venus Williams will be given a wild for the Rome Masters. All the top 25 players on the WTA list are expected to be present for the Italian Open and the defending champion, Elina Svitolina is expected to be perfectly cured of the Rome Masters since presently she is tackling with injuries after her opening round defeat at the Miami Open.
