Serena Williams to Start a New Partnership With Jay-Z

The 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and the American billionaire rapper Jay-Z invest their funds to back the growth of the Indonesian coffee chain Kopi Kenangan. The CEO and co-founder of the company Edward Tirtanata confirmed the news.

“Kopi Kenangan has the vision to take [the brand] internationally on the global stage. That’s why we decided to find investors that could help us with such brand-building,” the CEO told The Jakarta Post. Their deal with Williams and Jay-Z was signed last week.

Investing via ‘Serena Ventures’

Serena Williams is investing through her company called ‘Serena Ventures’. The firm was founded in 2014 and it ‘focuses  on early-stage companies, and giving them the opportunity to be heard.’ They mentor young founders and take burgeoning entrepreneurs to the next level. ‘Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity, and opportunity.’

While rapper Jay-Z made the investment through his venture firm ‘Arrive’. Its a subsidiary of entertainment management company Roc Nation Company.

Serena’s investment interests

Earlier this year, World’s Richest Self-Made Women Serena Williams invested her capital into 34 startups. The American legend shared her investing interests with Forbes. “I learned you can’t overspend, but I also learned that I love seed investing. It’s fun to get in there. I don’t gamble. I don’t jump off buildings. I’m the most non-taking-a-chance kind of a person, but I felt like a seed was where we wanted to be,” Williams said.

The tennis star Williams seeks investment-related advice from her longtime friend and Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg. “I always ask her advice in a lot of different areas,” Williams said. However most of the time she is reliant on the co-founder of Reddit and her husband Alexis Ohanian. “I’ve been really leaning on Alexis,” she said.

What’s next for Serena on the WTA Tour?

Before the first major tournament of the year Australian Open 2020 the American ace Williams will be seen at ASB Classic 2020 in Auckland from January 6. Along with singles, she will play doubles tennis with Caroline Wozniacki in Newzealand’s tournament.
