Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Douglas Costa has signed for German giants Bayern Munich for a fee of around £21 million. The 24-year-old has penned down a five year contract at the club and becomes the German side’s second signing of the window.

The official statement from Shakhtar Donetsk read:

“Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayern Munich have agreed all the necessary formalities regarding Douglas Costa’s move to the German club. The transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder is 30 million euros.”

“Shakhtar thanks Douglas for the time spent in the team and wishes him every success with the new club.”

Bayern’s executive Jan-Christian Dreesen was also quoted as saying:

“We are very pleased we were able to sign Douglas Costa. His five-year contract to 2020 also shows we are planning for the future. We hope he gets accustomed to life in Munich quickly and will improve the team.”

Costa had an impressive campaign for the Ukrainian side last season and was part of the Brazil squad that was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Copa America in Chile a few days ago.
