Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 Draw: Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer On Collision Course

The Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 draw has been unveiled and the top ATP men will be grappling to win the Shanghai Masters title in China. The 56-man draw this year looks incredibly deep and filled with quality all the way through.

The top seed and the defending champion, Novak Djokovic would aim to imitate his previous year’s eminence at the youngest Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour. Djokovic has established a stranglehold over the tournament with winning a record four titles in only ten editions of the event. He will open up against Frances Tiafoe or Denis Shapovalov in the second round. He might face John Isner or Lucas Pouille in the third round and then followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas or Gael Monfils in the quarters.

In the semifinals, he is expected to meet the Russian, Daniil Medvedev or Karen Khachanov. A potential championship match is expected to be between Federer and Djokovic.

The two-time Shanghai Rolex Masters champion, Roger Federer was stunned by Borna Coric in the semifinals last year. He will be aiming to win his fourth title of the 2019 and the second Masters 1000 title of the season. He will open up against David Goffin in the second round as he receives a bye in the first. He would play against Marin Cilic in the next round.

The 38-year-old might meet Alexander Zverev in the quarters. The Swiss Maestro would be up against Dominic Thiem by in the semifinals. After his win over Thiem, he might set up a final with Djokovic.

US Open 2019 runner-up, Daniil Medvedev reached back-to-back Masters 1000 finals in the lead to the final Grand Slam of the season, finishing runner-up to Nadal in Montreal and triumphing in Cincinnati. The next-gen star looks to continue his impressive run in Shanghai.

The Russian receives a bye in the first round and would open up against Gilles Simon in the second round, followed by Diego Schwartzman in the third round. Medvedev might be up against Fabio Fognini or Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals. A potential semifinals clash is expected between Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic. If through, Medvedev could meet Roger Federer for the title match.

Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 Draw: Thiem’s path in Shanghai

Indian Wells Masters champion, Dominic Thiem would aim to make a turnaround at this year’s Shanghai Masters as the Austrian was stunned by Matthew Ebden in the round of 32 last year.

The 26-year-old receives a bye in the first round. Thiem will open up against Ze Zhang or qualifier in the second round. He might be up against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the third round followed by Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarters and Roger Federer in the semifinals. The Austrian might clash against Novak Djokovic in the finals if he wins against Federer.

In some interesting first-round matches – Denis Shapovalov will face Frances Tiafoe in the battle of the next-gen players. Andy Murray will play Fabio Fognini in the second round of the 2019 Shanghai Masters 1000 event. Stefanos Tsitsipas could face Felix Auger-Aliassime in an interesting second-round match.
