The US Open is starting on August 31 and players are no doubt incredibly motivated to win the title, especially Serena Williams. This stems from the fact that she is chasing one of the biggest records in tennis, that of the most Grand Slams. However, Lindsay Davenport feels that this record should not be her main focus.

Serena Williams’ 24th Grand Slam

The current record for the most Grand Slams is held by Margaret Court who won 24. However, many of them were won before 1968. Keeping this in mind, although Serena Williams has won 23 Majors, she still holds the Open Era record for most Slams According to Lindsay Davenport, this is good enough. In a recent interview, she said, “You know, they are so different. At some of Margaret Court’s Grand Slams were only played with Australians or small draws. I don’t know, Serena has the Open Era record. I think she has it already. But there’s this fascination to get to 24 or 25 and that’s kind of put this almost unneeded pressure on her.”

There are a lot of people who think like Davenport and feel that Serena is already the greatest of all time. However, the American star will want to clear all doubts in people’s minds by winning her 24th Slam. She is all the more driven to complete that Herculean task especially since she has failed to do so in recent years.
