The mid-season tennis break has changed some players, and Milos Raonic is one of them. Sporting a new look, the Canadian now has long hair and a bulky figure. His performance has seen a jump as well since he is now in the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open.

During the tennis hiatus, Raonic was practicing with Diego Schwartzman. Diego had posted a photo with Raonic at one of their practices. Seeing that Raonic had put on a little weight, Fabio Fognini commented on the picture and said that it looked like Raonic had eaten an elephant. Offended by the comment, Raonic’s girlfriend Camille Ringoir replied to Fognini and reminded him that when he had faced Raonic, he got a ‘breadstick’ and ‘bagel’. This alluded to the last time Raonic faced the Italian, where Raonic thrashed him 6-1 (breadstick) and 6-0 (bagel).

After his quarterfinal win at the Western & Southern Open, Raonic was asked about the social media tussle between Fognini and his girlfriend. He replied, “It was an unflattering picture. We were training down in the Bahamas. It was very humid. Clothes stick to you. Like my mom would tell me, maybe my posture isn’t as good as it needs to be sometimes. It was a little bit of a slouch. Things can look a lot worse than they really are.”

Speaking about his girlfriend’s response, he said, “She took it very personally. I didn’t care much for it, and she felt it was necessary for her to make a remark. I saw it caught a bit more tailwind than I thought it deserved.”

Raonic is playing very well at the moment. In his quarterfinal match against Filip Krajinović, he saved a match point in the second set to make a comeback and went on to win the match. He will play Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal in what promises to be a riveting match.
