Cynthia Calvillo finally opens up and talks about how she felt about her opponent Jessica Eye missing weight before their fight.

Jessica Eye was scheduled to take on Cynthia Calvillo at UFC’s fight night in Saskatoon. The fight was supposed to go down on the 14th of June, but on the day of the weigh-ins, Eye failed to make the weight cut. She claimed to be only 0.2 pounds over-weight and even said he was “proud” of the cut she pulled off. Proud? Why would someone be proud of missing weight?

Addressing this very statement, Ariel Helwani and Cynthia Calvillo sat down to discuss this match. Calvillo ended up losing the match via decision, but that didn’t stop her from speaking about Eye’s failure to make weight.

Speaking with Helwani, she said, “She was kinda boasting about it. There was no way she could have cut that much weight. Even Sean Shelby came up to me at the weigh-in and was like she just weighed in at 129 or what so. And the next thing I know they kind of muffled the weigh-in. it was kind of weird. The announced everybody else’s weight on the scale but her’s was like… I don’t know.

Cynthia Calvillo also spoke about the conversation she had with Eye after the weigh-in. She said, “She came up to me and was like ‘Oh I’m sorry girl, it was only .2’ and I was like it was definitely not .2. But I just dropped it and moved forward with this fight, and afterwards call her out on it.”

Calvillo said Eye reacted as though she had made weight. She said, “She looked like she was really happy that she had only missed weight by .2. But who’s happy about missing weight? When I miss weight, I lock myself in the hotel room and I cry. And she was proud of herself because she almost made weight!”

Not throwing blame but make her point, Calvillo ended this by saying, “There is no way she weighed in at 126.2lbs. Not at all. And even at the end of the fight, all the officials were telling me there was a significant weight difference going into that fight. They weigh us in right before the fight, you know!”

Calvillo made her point. She didn’t complain but made sure Eye was called out for her missing weight. Do you think there is more to this than just a difference of 0.2?
