“She’s a Great Fighter”: Victoria Azarenka Looking Forward to Match Against Compatriot Aryna Sabalenka

The first-round matches at the 2020 US Open are done and fans are looking forward to what’s next. In the second round, we have an interesting match-up between Victoria Azarenka and Aryna Sabalenka.

The compatriots have played many matches against each other, with their last one coming at the 2019 US Open. It was an incredible match and in the end, Aryna prevailed in 3 sets. This was one of the reasons why Victoria is excited about the match as she said,

“I think it will be a great matchup. Honestly, I would be really excited to have that challenge. We had a really great match last year. It was really high quality. It didn’t go my way.

“I feel like this year it’s a great opportunity to kind of see where my level is at versus her level. Yeah, it’s going to be a great challenge. She’s a great fighter. She’s been showing great tennis.”

Aryna may have beaten Azarenka last year, but it won’t be as easy this time around. Victoria has been playing some amazing tennis lately, and that tennis led her to her first big title in a long time – the Cincinnati Open.

At the Cincinnati Open, Victoria Azarenka beat top players like Johanna Konta to win her first WTA title since 2016. This was the first time in years that we saw her in great form, and she may very well return to her position in 2012-13.

Back then, the Belarusian won 2 Grand Slams, a bronze medal at the Olympics, and she even held the World No. 1 ranking. These achievements were absolutely stunning and hopefully, she will replicate them over the next couple of years.
