Simona Halep becomes the first finalist of the Wimbledon Championships 2019 as she cruises past through Elina Svitolina 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals on Thursday.

The match between Simona Halep and Elina Svitolina was expected to be an intense physical baseline battle as the first game itself saw several draining rallies between the two. Simona Halep saved 3 break points to hold her first service game.

However, the Romanian was back in business in the next game as she broke Elina Svitolina after the fifth deuce in the game which looked like a never-ending game. Svitolina fought back to break Halep to love in the very next game.

Elina Svitolina was back on serve but Simona Halep broke her for the second time to earn a lead of 3-1. The Ukranian was yet to hold serve in her first grand slam semifinal match. Halep looked in complete control as she held her serve and again broke Svitolina to love in the next game. Serving for the first set, the 27-year-old battled hard to hold her serve as she won the first set 6-1.

Elina Svitolina was starting to look better in the second set as she held her first service game fairly easily.  This was the first time in the match when the World No. 8, held her serve.

Both the players held their serve strongly till 3-3 when the Romanian shifted gears and broke Svitolina to take a lead of 4-3. The World No. 7 then held her serve strongly as she was one game away from reaching her first finals at the championships. She was all over Svitolina as she broke her in the next game and won the set 6-3.

With this victory, Simona Halep reaches her first Wimbledon Championships final. She will face the winner of the second semifinal match between Serena Williams and Barbora Strycova in the finals.
