Soccer fans around the world gear up for one of the fiercest league games of the season. It’s first vs Second, Liverpool vs Manchester City in the Premier League. While the defending champions trail by a point, a battle of words has already begun in the buildup to the top-of-the-table clash. City’s goal-scoring machine, Erling Haaland, has heaped praise on Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk. This came after he hit back at Trent Alexander Arnold’s comments on their trophy wins.

Even Liverpool’s best attacker, Mohamed Salah, could not occupy the Norwegian’s mind who chose the Dutchman as the one he admires. Speaking to TNT Sports, Haaland said, “He is the main guy in Liverpool, and I said it for many years, he’s unreal. And he is also a really nice guy as well, so that also helps. So yeah, he’s a monster, and yeah, I like to play against players like him because then you really test yourself. So what can you say? It’s going to be a nice game.”

Haaland has carried his form from last season to this one. However, the strong wall at Anfield will be tough to break. After all, they are the second-best defense in the Premier League this season. And players like Van Dijk will pose a major threat to their attack, which Halland has realized already.

The Norwegian star, however, preferred to uplift van Dijk after Trent’s comments about Manchester City’s trophy win. Van Dijk has been an important player for Liverpool, helping them win all the major trophies in club soccer. The Reds’ captain amassed 255 caps for them and also netted 23 times. Even Mohamed Salah has been a tough competitor for City scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists in 20 games against the treble winners, which did not strike the Norwegian’s mind. However, when TAA commented on the feeling of their trophy wins, Haaland was quick to snap back.

Erling Haaland takes a dig at Trent Alexander-Arnold for his comments

Earlier, Haaland gave a heated reply to the 25-year-old right-back. The 2019 Champions League winner claimed that Liverpool’s titles meant more than City’s because of their financial condition. In return, the 23-year-old countered saying, “If he wants to say that, OK. I’ve been here one year and I won the treble and it was quite a nice feeling, I don’t think he knows exactly this feeling,” claiming to enjoy a rare landmark.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has been a major hurdle for City for many years. The fixture between the two clubs has rarely failed to provide intrigue as even this season’s earlier encounter went to the dying minutes. However, it was the player in the hot seat, Alexnader-Arnold, that gave Liverpool the equalizer in the 80th minute, countering Haaland’s goal. But whether Haaland, in the absence of Trent, could take his team home tomorrow would be interesting to see.
