Soccer shows have surfaced on the internet recently, showcasing the traditions and culture of various clubs. Think of Sunderland Til I Die, a show that portrays the emotions of one of the oldest English soccer clubs. As it is normal to excite their club, Wrexham, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, as you all know, came up with ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ to attract the masses. Fans just can’t get enough of the Hollywood connection. But not all are impressed.
USMNT icon Alexi Lalas couldn’t care less about the show, as he believes it is not in his point of interest. With Wrexham plying their trade in Football League One, the show attracts eyeballs to understand how the soccer club runs. Yet, Lalas pointed out everything that’s wrong with the show.
During a moment in Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union Podcast, he detailed the hype around the show by saying, “No, I did not see the Wrexham game or the Wrexham score because it doesn’t come on my radar.”

He continued, “I don’t care. And if it does, it’s relative to the show and relative to the high-profile owners or something like that. But we talked about the insanity when it comes to Wrexham here. And the amount of money they are spending. And then people screaming and yelling at me about merit and meritocracy and stuff.” Lalas mentioned how the documentary became based on the soccer club’s owners. Lalas was left unimpressed with the money they spent and took a sly dig at their spending.
In a day and age where some soccer clubs find it difficult to find the right investment, Ryan Reynolds knows how to pull his cards out. Therefore, there is a catch on why they do this!
In the current day and age, the English Premier League rakes in more income than most soccer leagues. But when you lower the ladder, the commercial income and broadcasting deals fall off drastically. The interest rate in the lower leagues of English soccer is barely minimal. Therefore, they have to think out of the box. This is where Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney came up with the perfect blueprint.
Welcome to Wrexham remains a major hit!
They created a show to put Wrexham on the map and attract the masses! After three seasons of the show aired on Hulu, the fourth installment of the season is ready to be produced. Fans could see the current season progress in the next season, showcasing the battles they went through to gain promotion.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Wrexham's hype all smoke and mirrors, or does the team actually deserve the spotlight?
Have an interesting take?
Yet, not all people remain satisfied with the show. There are suggestions that it is forced content and the owners try too hard to create a brand image. In fact, they rake in more income than their counterparts, allowing them to be flexible in the transfer market.
