The Racecourse Stadium erupted in wild celebrations on Saturday after the final whistle. Wrexham AFC achieved their dream of promotion to the Football League Two after 15 years. The club’s celebrity owners, Ryan Reynolds, and Ron McElhenney, were on the roof after the Red Dragons ensured the title and promotion.

When Reynolds and McElhenney took over the club in February 2021, their primary aim was promotion to the fourth division. Two months after the second anniversary of the club, Wrexham achieved the ultimate dream of promotion. The club signed Ben Foster recently to bolster their squad after an injury to starting goalkeeper. And it was only Foster who made one of the most significant penalty saves in the club’s history, which eventually helped Wrexham to get their much-needed promotion.

Has Ryan Reynolds signed Ben Foster for next season?

Ben Foster announced his retirement last year. He last played for Watford. Who would have thought Foster will come out of retirement and make a penalty save to help Wrexham get a promotion? An injury to Rob Lainton made the Red Dragons act fast. The owners convinced Foster to come out of retirement and join the club for three months.

Foster responded and joined the third-oldest soccer club on a short-term deal. He started all the games since then. In a title-deciding game against Notts County, he saved a penalty in the 96th minute. The Red Dragons won the game and took crucial three points. On Saturday, Wrexham beat Boreham Wood and ensured the promotion and league title with a game to go.

During the wild celebrations, Ryan Reynolds and Ben Foster were involved in a friendly talk. Ryan Reynolds said, “You’ve been here before,” on the Red Dragons going to League Two. Foster replied, “We’ll do it again this year.”

Excited Deadpool star said, “Alright that’s a contract. He said, ‘We’ll do it again next year’. That’s it done. That is as good as gold. You just verbally signed.” Well, it looks like Reynolds wants Foster to continue for one more year next season. They will need some experience going into League Two, with Foster one of the perfect candidate to provide it.

It is the record by any team for a single season in the Vanarama National League. Wrexham can also break another record if they score more goals than Notts County. As of now, the County is on 116 goals, and the Red Dragons are on 115. Whether Wrexham scores more goals than Notts County only time will tell.
