The striker’s name has been taken in yet another comparison, where Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone claims Alvaro Morata is equivalent to Haaland.

When it comes to the best strikers, the name Erling Haaland shines like a beacon. The youngster has been compared to some of the biggest names in the soccer world, like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, this time, the 23-year-old’s name has been taken in the same sentence as Alvaro Morata. 

These thoughts emerged while he spoke with Spanish journalist Manu Carreno on his podcast, El Larguero. Simeone said, “Álvaro Morata is on par with Erling Haaland. In terms of goals and his numbers, he can certainly be compared to him.”

So far, the 31-year-old has notched 12 goals and three assists in 15 games in both La Liga and the Champions League for Roji Blancos. On the other hand, in 18 games, Haaland has bagged 17 goals and four assists for Manchester City.

While Haaland may have an edge, Morata’s stats do impress. Yet, it is quite a unique statement from Simeone. Meanwhile, the Norwegian was recently slammed by renowned journalist Piers Morgan.

In a recent Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester City, which ended 4-4, Haaland scored a brace. The player broke his side’s deadlock in the 25th minute by scoring a penalty. However, instead of praise, the lethal striker was scrutinized by Piers Morgan. The British broadcaster went to X and wrote, “Another day, another VAR fiasco. Haaland behaves like a hyperactive octopus but gets a penalty. Absurd.”
