The love affair for Hunt started way back in the 2000s. In an interview, he revealed the finer details of following one of the best-supported clubs in the world. Hunt started, “Euro 2000 was that summer and Holland was a co-host, and Holland had a great team back then. Edgar Davids, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert. They built bleachers in our living room. That kind of enthusiasm is very, very infectious.” Out of all the players who reached Arsenal, Dennis Bergkamp revolutionized the club from top to bottom. He brushed the ‘1-0 Arsenal chants’ to see the side playing enthralling attacking soccer.
Hunt continued, “Then Dennis Bergkamp was on Arsenal at the time, and so Dutch people were like, ‘Hey, you should watch Arsenal.’ And then I was watching, just passing a bar where Arsenal was playing Chelsea, and they were down 2-0 with 20 minutes left. And then Nwankwo Kanu scores a hat trick in the last 15 minutes of the game at Chelsea. That was the final piece of the puzzle. And then there was no turning back. And I’m stuck with them now.”
Nwankwo Kanu- The savior for Arsenal!
For Hunt, it was the iconic Kanu hat trick. The game saw Chelsea score two goals and lead the game until the last 15 minutes of the game. Arsenal pulled a goal back when Marc Overmars scuffed his shot, and the ball reached Kanu. He then took an outside foot shot toward the goalpost and scored. The second one was all about the Nigerian’s first touch.

Overmars crossed the ball, and Kanu took a touch that freed him away from the defender and shot the ball to the near post. And at the end, he scored a goal from an impossible angle to pull off a hat trick and give Arsenal a remarkable 3-2 victory. Since then, he stamped himself into the folklore of the club. It’s not surprising that Hunt from Ted Lasso adores the soccer club. Who doesn’t?
