This year’s transfer window was quite busy for Inter Miami. The Herons didn’t settle with just last year’s statement signing, Lionel Messi, as they brought in more reinforcements to Chase Stadium. However, among all the arrivals, one stands out the most—Federico Redondo—not just because of the talent the youngster brings for Tata Martino and Co., but also because Miami managed to defeat FC Barcelona to acquire his signature, leaving the European giants irked.

The son of Real Madrid and Argentinian legend Fernando Redondo was one of the key targets for Xavi and Co. in the recent January transfer window. But instead, the 21-year-old chose to don the pink jersey. While it has been months since Federico arrived at the Magic City, the dust hasn’t settled back in Camp Nou. As per E-Noticies, a few Barcelona officials are still annoyed over the clubs’ inability to land transfer targets, with the talented defensive midfielder being one of them.

Inter Miami deserves more pat on the back for also defeating the Catalans’ arch-rivals, Real Madrid, who showed initial interest in Redondo. Los Blancos expected the former Argentinos Juniors star to follow in the footsteps of his father to don the white jersey in Bernabeu. Perhaps wasn’t interested in wasting the chance to share a locker room alongside Messi, an opportunity that doesn’t come so easily. But so far, the Argentinian youngster hasn’t been able to impress much out there.

He has made just 2 appearances each in the MLS and the CONCACAF Champions League Cup, which Miami is out of. Redondo has been out of action for over 6 weeks, nursing his torn lateral knee ligament. Regardless, even though it’s quite intriguing that Miami managed to defeat Barca, they might go head-to-head with another club to sign Messi’s other best friend.

After Barcelona, Inter Miami looking to win the race against another European giant for Argentinian teammate of Lionel Messi

Angel Di Maria remains a target for top-tier clubs, with Inter Miami among those showing interest. Despite Tata Martino debunking the rumors, the speculation persists to see him play alongside Lionel Messi. Yet, reports indicate that securing his signature could be a challenging endeavor for the MLS side. Allegedly, the agent representing Benfica’s attacker has engaged in discussions with Turkish giants Besiktas.

Furthermore, the race intensifies as his contract is set to expire this summer. Notably, the 36-year-old has been in decent form, amassing 16 goals and 15 assists across all domestic competitions. It remains to be seen if Miami will compete with Besiktas for Di Maria’s services. However, defeating Barcelona and Real Madrid for signing Federico Redondo shows Miami has what it takes to compete with all the soccer giants.
