It isn’t far-fetched to draw a parallel between 6x NBA champion Michael Jordan and USWNT legend Alex Morgan. Just like Jordan popularized the NBA in the 80s, Morgan has been putting the spotlight on the NWSL through her presence in the league. US midfielder Lynn Williams says there’s no NWSL without Alex. Besides, though not as grandly as MJ, the SD Wave legend has been reaping success outside the pitch as well. Now, a bunch of soccer analysts and former USWNT star Ali Krieger wants the two-time World champion to ‘be like Mike’ in her post-retirement ventures as well.

When a player of Alex Morgan‘s stature hangs their boots, many would want them to take up a coaching role in the future. But Morgan said no to that idea way before. Since that’s the case, Colombian footballer and ESPN analyst Sebastian Salazar predicted a different role for the former Wave and OL Pride star. “I got a feeling she will be a Michael Jordan-like figure and be the first player to come back and be the owner of a team,” said Salazar in the recent episode of the Futbol Americas podcast.

Then, he asked co-host and former US star Ali Krieger if she thinks along the same lines about Alex Morgan’s future. “I think we need her in a position of power to affect the game in a positive way. She deserves to be in that position because she holds the standard really high,” said Krieger. “I hope she could be in a GM-type role, in a sporting director role. If not then, ownership then for sure.

Krieger also believes that her former teammates, as an owner or GM, could provide a wholistic environment for players and staff alike to thrive. Interestingly, as Krieger and others have wished, Morgan is on the track to stay invested in women’s sports.

Alex Morgan has found her calling, and it’s nothing but growing the women’s game

In an interview the day after she announced retirement, Alex Morgan lifted the lid on her future after soccer. “I have not taken any coaching licenses. I’ll just say that: I don’t think coaching is in my future,” said Morgan. She added, “I think that I’ve found my calling in just investing in women’s sports, doing as much as I can to give as big of a platform to women’s sports as possible. I do that through my media company, Together. I’m doing that through my foundation, the Alex Morgan Foundation.”

As well know, Morgan’s foundation has been contributing immensely to the development of grassroots programs in San Diego. Speaking of other investments, Morgan is a partner in the Los Angeles Golf Club. She has also invested in the novel 3 v 3 women’s basketball league. She regards that as the most impactful of her investments. Hence, it’s no surprise Salazar and Krieger believe Morgan would mirror the former Charlotte Hornets owner and pursue franchise ownership.
