The game of soccer attracts eyeballs because of its fast-paced nature. Many celebrities are entering the soccer market by owning different clubs. Take actor Ryan Reynolds for an example. The Wrexham project is well underway and looks set for promotion to EFL League Two. Similarly, Tom Cruise is a leading fan of soccer. Moreover, he shares a good friendship with David Beckham and once tried to woo him into Scientology

In fact, he built a million-dollar soccer stadium to convince Beckham to get into Scientology. However, Tom Cruise supports David’s arch-nemesis, Atletico Madrid, rivals of Real Madrid.

Tom Cruise supports Atletico Madrid

The sensational action superstar gave his allegiance to Atletico Madrid during a stadium tour back in 2017. He commented, “It’s going to be a really magnificent stadium. I can’t wait to watch them come back and play here now.”

As Cruise tried to draw the attention of Beckham to join Scientology, one must not forget he played for their arch-rivals, Real Madrid.

Both soccer clubs have a passionate fan base, and their derby is hotly contested. Real Madrid is a team that captures the hearts and minds of various people. They are the 14-time Champions League winners and remain a legendary club with its fair share of history.

Atletico Madrid bounced back from their early financial troubles to provide competition to both Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent times. As a result of an increase in the fan base, they moved to a 68,000-seater stadium called the Wanda Metropolitano.

In a book released by Scientology member Mike Rinder, he explained the thought process behind Cruise’s fascinating blueprint to lure David. He stated how they built the soccer pitch, only to welcome Beckham to the cult.

Rinder mentioned, “A professional-grade soccer pitch was constructed on the property at Gold [Base, church headquarters in San Jacinto, California]. The ground was leveled, irrigation installed, perfect turf, goals raised.

It is something unheard of. As Beckham loves soccer, he never wanted to join the cult, despite Tom Cruise’s strong efforts. Beckham stuck to his roots. However, the soccer fraternity received a world-class pitch to play on. Hence, there is a happy ending, after all.
