Canada Soccer is red-faced at the moment. CanWNT’s alleged drone use for spying on the New Zealand team at the Olympics has not only forced the Summer Games officials to ban their coach Beverley Priestman, but has also turned the team into a laughingstock. While speaking to USWNT veteran Sam Mewis, star striker Midge Purce said Canada should learn to cheat better. Now, Canada-born USWNT star Sydney Leroux got a chance to mock Priestman and Co. over the Dronegate. And she has done it hilariously, leaving US legend Megan Rapinoe in splits.

The ‘Women’s Game’- a hub of women’s soccer, shared on Instagram a video of New Zealand WNT stars walking down swirling stairs while playfully dancing to a tune. The Instagram page said in its caption, that the video is a petition for the New Zealand team to showcase their moves at the Olympic opening ceremony. Sydney Leroux, who took note of the video, instantly commented, “Was this filmed by the drone?,” tearing the Canada WNT to shreds with a cheeky allusion to their Spygate.

Women’s Game reposted Leroux’s bizarre joke on their Instagram handle. “Sydney Leroux keeping drone gate alive .” The Angel City star’s joke is all the more relevant, as the Canadian side allegedly spied on the New Zealand WNT using drones before their Olympic faceoff. Canada notably won that clash 2-1 as well. Seeing her former teammate’s outspoken jibe, Megan Rapinoe took to Instagram and commented a ‘danger emoji’ under Women’s Game’s post.

In the same comment box, we could see fans saying Sydney Leroux never fails to taunt Canada soccer. Well, if she’s taunting now, she and her family once exposed Canadian soccer, revealing why she left her birth country to play for the US.

Sydney Leroux’s forgettable equation with Canadian soccer explored

Sydney Leroux kick-started her pro career with the British Columbia-based side Vancouver Whitecaps. But her stint in Vancouver was so off-kilter that Leroux arrived at a crossroads between quitting her soccer career or pursuing one in her father’s birthland- the USA. She is a world champion and an Olympic gold medalist with the USWNT now. Well, she could have won an Olympic gold even if she stayed in Canada, considering they clinched the ultimate Olympic prize in Tokyo. But even that medal is now in jeopardy, as Olympic officials could tarnish it in light of the recent drone-gate.
