In their opening game, Portugal beat Ghana 3-2. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the spot. The goal meant Ronaldo became the first player to score in five different World Cups. He is yet to score after that and will hope to change that as it is a crucial part of the tournament and he will want to help the team.

The player was at the center of controversy after the last group-stage game against South Korea. Ronaldo looked angry when Fernando Santos substituted him in the 65th minute.
