One man’s loss is another man’s gain, they say. Al Nassr might be relating to this saying, as good fortune seems to have fallen into their lap. With the upcoming Saudi Super Cup against Al Hilal, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. have gained a big advantage as their rival’s top goalscorer, Aleksandar Mitrovic, is reportedly unavailable for the crucial match due to injury.

The Serbian international’s injury is graver than anticipated, as he will reportedly be out for over a month and a half. Mitrovic sustained a knock last night while playing for his side’s Roshn Saudi League clash against Al Shabab. Although Jorge Jesus’ side clinched a 3-4 victory in a seven-goal thriller, it came at the cost of losing his prolific striker to a long-term injury. Notably, the injury came moments after he scored a brace in the first half, forcing Al-Za’eem to replace him with Saleh Alshehri in the 34th minute of the game. While this comes out to be a huge blow for Al Hilal, it gives a major respite to Al Nassr. 

Mitrovic is expected to miss the entire month of April and is anticipated to return sometime in mid-May. Hence, other clubs would be looking to capitalize on his absence, especially Al Nassr, who is playing against the Blue Waves on April 9 for the Saudi Super Cup semi-final. Certainly, the Knights of the Najd will be looking to book their place in the finals of the tournament to guarantee their hopes of winning the silverware. 

Notably, Mitrovic’s absence might also bring a twist to the Saudi Pro League title race, as Al Hilal relied on their star forward’s services. In fact, his long absence can apparently help Cristiano Ronaldo. 

How will Aleksandar Mitrovic’s injury benefit Cristiano Ronaldo? 

Cristiano Ronaldo has been facing tough competition from Aleksandar Mitrovic in the Roshn Saudi League’s top scorer race. Although the Portuguese superstar currently leads the charts with 26 goals, the 29-year-old Serbian trails behind CR7 in second place with just four goals. However, with Mitrovic allegedly out of action for more than a month, Ronaldo will have a chance to extend his top-scorer lead. 

The recent hat-trick by the 39-year-old during a 5-1 victory over 10-man Al Tai, with goals also from Otavio and Abdulrahman Ghareeb, enabled him to widen the goal margin against Mitrovic, securing him the league’s Golden Boot. However, the competition between the two may resume if Mitrovic’s recovery speeds up due to this miracle. We wish him a speedy recovery.
