Workload management for athletes has to be of paramount importance. The players are the life of the game. The more players play in quick succession; the more they risk getting injured. With new rules and competitions being announced by FIFA frequently, players find themselves getting exhausted quickly. After a prolonged silence, on behalf of the players, Raphael Varane of Manchester United finally spoke out in public on the issue.
The ace defender believed that the new rules by FA is counterproductive to the players. The Frenchman feared that this might lead to unnecessary injuries to players. Interestingly, these comments come right after Varane’s teammate Ian Bishop’s actions leading to an injury for Wrexham star Paul Mullin.

Despite multiple complaints registered over the years, the FA with their new rules have only piled on the misery for the players. “Despite our previous feedbacks, they have now recommended for next season: longer games, more intensity, and less emotions to be shown by players,” said the defender haplessly. Interestingly, this is not the first time that someone from Manchester United has spoken out on this topic.
Raphael Varane isn’t the first Manchester United faculty to complain about more matches
Back in 2020, Manchester United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer had the same issues against the FA. The FA scheduled Premier League matches in such a way that the Red Devils got only less than two days’ gap between their Champions League fixture and an away fixture at Goodison Park. Eventually, this jampacked scheduling led to Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford’s injuries.

“These boys deserve better. Luke Shaw has got injured because of it. It’s a hamstring which might be a long one and Marcus Rashford might be struggling,” said the United manager after the game against Everton. The gaffer didn’t hold back as he went on to publicly slam the authorities for their ill planning.

“The authorities set us up for fail, who is responsible? We’ve had enough of that. Players this season, in these times, a pandemic, mentally and physically it’s draining. Let us play on a Sunday, there’s an international break after this, it’s a joke,” said the Norwegian with no remorse.
