Despite a 3X Increase, Women’s FA Cup Winners’ Prize Money Falls Short of Men’s Competition’s Massive $2,500,000 Prize

After months of matches and stories that made headlines in the soccer community, FA Cup has reached its final stage. One of the biggest pieces of news is just announced by the organizers. Manchester City will face Manchester United in the men’s FA Cup final. On the other hand, Sam Kerr will lead Chelsea against Manchester United in a few days for the title.

Expectations are high from Chelsea, as their performance recently had been none less than remarkable, led by FIFA 23’s highest-rated Sam Kerr. Keeping the agonizing 2-1 aggregate defeat from Barcelona Femeni aside, the team has since won 2-1 against Liverpool, 7-0 against Everton, and 6-0 against Leicester City.

The women’s FA Cup finals will be played in a few days at Wembley Stadium. Teams just got a piece of extra motivation to win, as the association has announced an unbelievable rise in the Prize. This rise is the perfect reflector of the increasing popularity of women’s soccer all around Europe.

The increase in FA Cup prize money

The Football Association, organizers of the FA Cup has just announced a big raise in the prize money of the tournament. Up until the 20016-17 season, the prize money was an unbelievable, 6,288 USD. It gradually increased to 34.5k USD over the years and it just has crossed 100k mark.

The winning team will be getting 125k USD which is a significant jump. According to the reports, the FA will be retaining the Ticket sales bonus for the finals. The Times reported that the association will be making around 2.5 million USD on the final match day.

Apparently, the 90,000-capacity stadium is already sold out for the upcoming women’s FA Cup final. This remarkable achievement has led to an increase in the prize money. The 90,000 attendance will set a new record in the women’s division FA Cup. The last season’s final had 49,000 fans in the stadium.

Comparison with men’s prize pool

At last, the women’s team got the Prize money increased. However, the amount is still a far cry from what their peers will be making in the men’s division. A few months back, FA increased the prize money of the tournament by 250k USD. The final prize for winning the men’s FA Cup is now an even 2.5 million USD.
