The international break in soccer is nearing. National team coaches are busy making preparations and selecting the players for the upcoming break. A few nations have named their roster. One such national team that has named the squad for the Euro qualifiers is Wales. However, Wrexham superstar forward Paul Mullin failed to make it to the Welsh roster.

European nations will play in the Euro 2024 qualifiers in the last week of March. Wales will play Croatia on March 25 and Latvia on March 28. Their manager Rob Page has named 24 man squad for the qualifiers. It will be the first time Welsh talisman Gareth Bale won’t be a part of the squad after retiring. Nevertheless, the absence of in-form striker Mullin created headlines.

Paul Mullin snubbed despite great form

Wales manager recently named the squad for the Euro qualifiers. Paul Mullin, who is in extraordinary form over the last three seasons, has been left out of the Welsh squad for upcoming qualifiers. Mullin has 29 goals this season in Vanarama National League and is second on the top-scorer list.

Mullin has 38 goals this season in all competitions for Wrexham AFC. He joined the club in the summer of 2021 from Cambridge United, where he won the Golden Boot in Football League Two in the 2020-21 season. His first season at Wrexham was also extraordinary, as he won the National League Golden Boot.

Mullin is also in contention for the Golden Boot this season and is seven goals behind Macaulay Langstaff of Notts County in the race. With nine games to go in the season, it will be interesting to see whether Mullin finishes as a top scorer in the league or not. 

Wales manager Rob Page recently heaped praise on the Wrexham striker. Many believed Mullin will get a call to the Wales national team, which he is eligible to play for. Meanwhile, Page has called up Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson, who is not fully fit and will undergo some tests to know the extent of the injury. Despite his exclusion, the striker will be looking forward to earning a promotion to Football League Two with his team.

Wrexham AFC eyeing automatic promotion spot

Wrexham currently sits on top of the table of the Vanarama National League. They are one point ahead of their nearest rival, Notts County. However, they have a game in hand over County and can go four points clear with a win.

The game between the third oldest club in history and Notts County next month will be the decider in the title race. The winners of the league get automatically promoted to the Football League Two while the playoffs decide the remaining spot. After missing narrowly on promotion last season, their primary target is to attain promotion this season.
