As we embark on the month of August, domestic clubs around the world continue to wrap up their pre-season rituals. Likewise, many transfers are also being finalized as all teams look to bolster their squads before they kick off the new season. However, this year, we may also get to see a drastic change in one of the European teams’ owners, as there is an exciting rumor surrounding Tottenham Hotspur.

Per the latest reports, rap mogul Jay Z, who is an ardent Arsenal fan, is surprisingly eyeing an opportunity to buy Spurs. Although many celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon to buy shares in soccer clubs, this comes as a surprising addition to that list.

The trend of celebrities investing their money in several sports ventures and big teams continues to spread. A huge credit also goes to Ryan Reynolds on that matter. Several reports suggest that Jay Z is looking to buy Tottenham Hotspur. This comes after the Londers’ current owner, Joe Lewis, was accused of insider trading and fraud.

Moreover, a source close to the hip-hop star informed The Express about the same. “More than a few of the very top clubs there – like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea – are now under US ownership and Jay would jump at the chance of a controlling interest at board level somewhere with the global reach of Spurs.”

“It remains to be seen whether Mr. Lewis will walk away free. If he doesn’t, Jay has said he wants to be in a position to move quickly if he feels the price is right,” he added.

Furthermore, the source also insists that it’s quite achievable, thanks to the singer’s backing from major investors. Remarkably, Jay Z, aka Shawn Carter, has existing business collaborations in soccer. In July, his company, RocNation Sports, established a ‘strategic partnership’ with the Italian Serie A league.

Indeed, it would be interesting to see the English side get Jay Z as their owner. It is also quite ironic, given that he once sided with Arsenal.

Jay-Z once showed an interest in becoming a significant investor in Arsenal, the bitter North London rivals of Spurs. At that time, the 53-year-old expressed his admiration for the team, particularly for his favorite player, Thierry Henry. “Everybody in the UK knows that I am an Arsenal fan,” he told the NME in 2010. The singer revealed that after seeing Henry in action at Arsenal, he tagged him as an “amazing player.”

“Ever since then, I have been a big fan of the club. I think he had a real long-term effect on the team,” he added. Subsequently, during the same interview, he did not dismiss the possibility of owning a soccer team in the future. He described himself as a businessman, and he insisted on always looking for opportunities. “In the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?” he said.
