Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham has just spent over $300,000 in the transfer market. Even with such minimal spending, the club is able to pull off better results. Despite spending over $1 billion in the transfer market, the Saudi league is facing difficulty in matching the average footfall of Ryan Reynolds’s Wrexham. The Saudi clubs have spent millions in bringing World-class stars from around the world, yet it feels like they couldn’t bring much attention to it.

The English Premier League is still the top spender in the transfer market, followed by the Saudi Pro League. With so much money invested already, why are they not even matching the numbers being produced at STOK Cae Ras?

Ryan Reynolds has a total net worth of $350 million, which, when compared to Saudi’s humongous $1 billion spending looks like a meagre amount. Yet, Wrexham is not only winning on the field, they are winning against the footfalls that an average SPL match enjoys.

Where Wrexham is witnessing an attendance of around 10, 204, the Saudi Pro League’s average attendance is only 8500 so far this season, as per a report by Bloomberg. With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Karim Benzema playing in the Saudi Pro League, their star power is falling short of the enthusiasm and dedication of the Wrexham supporters.

Javier Tebas, the President of La Liga, doesn’t mince words when he criticizes the Saudi Pro League for its abysmal viewership. He firmly emphasizes the pressing need for the Saudi League to enhance its audio-visual rights strategy if it hopes to allure a larger audience. Despite boasting star players like Benzema and Ronaldo, the Spanish league managed to sell its rights for a staggering $64.4 million, a stark reminder of the uphill battle the Saudi Pro League faces.

Tebas continues to drive his point home by highlighting the specific regions where the Saudi League lags behind. America and Africa, both promising markets for football, show dismally low viewership for Saudi League matches. In this era of global sports consumption, Tebas believes its essential for the league to expand its reach beyond domestic borders and capture the imaginations of fans worldwide.
