Despite 6 Years at Manchester City, Benjamin Mendy Snubs Pep Guardiola as His ‘Most Supportive Coach’

Former Manchester City left back, Benjamin Mendy has made a surprising revelation. A soccer coach possesses the power to make or break a player’s career. This bond is often forged through sweat, strategy, and a shared passion and dedication for the game. Recently, the French left-back mentioned the coach who influenced him the most in his soccer career. Shockingly, it was not Pep Guardiola who actively trained him in Manchester City from 2017 to 2021.

Mendy’s relationship with the City indeed was a totally troubled one. However, under Guardiola’s guidance, he won 11 trophies, including 4 league titles. Yet he snubbed Guardiola. So who is Mendy’s ‘most supportive coach?’

BeFootball recently tweeted about Benjamin Mendy’s favorite coach. He said, “Regis Le Bris is the most claque coach I have had.” According to him, the most supportive coach we have ever had in his soccer career is his current manager at FC Lorient. Interestingly, Mendy only joined the club this summer, and for six years he was an official player of Pep Guardiola’s City.

The Frenchman joined City in 2017 from Monaco and won Premier League titles in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Following this, the club stopped paying him after multiple criminal charges. Later in January, all the rape allegations and a sexual assault cases against him were cleared.

The 39-year-old later got a second opportunity at F.C. Lorente, and now he has played as a substitute three times for the new club. Even though he lauded Le Bris after ditching Guardiola, the latter once claimed that Mendy is a “really good boy.”

The Spanish manager claims the Frenchman is a good boy

In November 2022, Pep Guardiola stood in front of the jurors to give his take on Mendy after he was accused of rape and rape attempts. During the hearing, the Spanish soccer manager claimed that the Frenchman is a ‘good boy’ when it comes to his professional life. However, the 52-year-old confessed that he has no idea what Mendy does in his personal life.

Guardiola sarcastically mentioned that he is not his father and does not have to be concerned with his private life. Furthermore, the coach is only in control of a player during their training sessions, and due to the same reason, the city’s talisman does not even follow his players on social media.
