Cristiano Ronaldo‘s second spell at Manchester United undoubtedly turned out sour for both parties. Even though it has been more than a year since the incident unfolded, opinions abound to date regarding who bears responsibility for the failed stint. Yet again, Erik ten Hag finds himself under scrutiny, with renowned journalist Piers Morgan insisting that the Red Devils should have ‘got rid’ of the manager instead of Ronaldo. 

Following Mohamed Salah’s reported altercation with manager Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against West Ham, reporter James Pearce tweeted about the Egyptian’s refusal to give his remarks on the incident, saying, “If I speak today there will be fire.” Morgan retweeted Salah’s claim while asking, “Time for an interview @MoSalah??” Interestingly, this didn’t settle with an X netizen named @billsuntai, who slammed the English broadcaster for ruining Ronaldo’s career at United. 

When further asked for clarification, the response said, “The interview was what ruined Ronaldo’s time at United.” However, Morgan was ready for his comeback and retweeted the netizen’s comment by writing, “No, Ten Hag ruined Ronaldo’s time at United. They should have kept @Cristiano and got rid of a manager who hasn’t a clue how to handle top players.” In a bold assertion, the renowned journalist has candidly held the current United manager responsible for their legendary player’s exit. Yet, somehow Morgan himself can be considered to be involved in this. 

The uncensored interview held back in November 2022 painted Ronaldo as a villain at Old Trafford, leading United to terminate his contract immediately. It also caused a split among the fanbase, with some supporting CR7 while others siding with the manager. But the majority of them are against ten Hag, due to the Red Devils’ recent performances.

Referring to Manchester United’s loss as ‘another in the long chain of embarrassments,’ the fiery critique targeted the 54-year-old coach, questioning his conduct. “Ten Hag keeps talking about standards. What standards?”

What a problem to have, Yeah?”  Additionally, he emphasized the absence of ‘a player who could walk into any other side,’ underscoring the club’s major issue. The hosts of the show appeared to echo this sentiment. 

Undoubtedly, poor results have intensified scrutiny surrounding Erik ten Hag. However, what surprises many is that even today, he continues to face criticism over Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.
