The Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have changed the fortunes of the Wrexham AFC. Once a club that was struggling in the fifth division is now sitting at the top of the table. Both have become the favorite owners in soccer and have won the hearts of the Wrexham community.

The duo took over the club back in 2021 after it was suffering holistic financial woes. Since then, the club has achieved significant milestones and is already eyeing a promotion to the fourth league. However, Wrexham isn’t the only side that is doing wonders in English soccer.

League Two side stuns Premier League side

The English soccer leagues are known for their tough competition. Be it the top flight, Premier League or any League two, the majority of soccer clubs have been known to achieve the impossible.

And just like that, yet another team has dropped the jaws of the soccer world. Yesterday, Premier League strugglers, Southampton lost against the second-division side Grimsby Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The Saints, who are at the bottom of the Premier League, lost 1-2 against the Mariners, who are sitting at 16th in League Two. Paul Hurst’s side took a late lead in the first half thanks to a penalty from Gavan Holohan. Things escalated for the Saints when the ref pointed to the spot once again, thus helping Holohan get his brace.

Soccer fans around the globe have gone frenzy as this was Grimsby Town’s first quarterfinal since 1939. Many are congratulating the second-division side for their success, with Rob McElhenney also giving his thumbs up.

The Wrexham’s co-owner congratulated Grimsby Town on Twitter with the caption, “Congrats @officialgtfc !!!! Class team, class ownership, and class supporters. Go win the whole thing.”

It was indeed a heartwarming tweet from Ryan’s best bud as his message would be a major confidence booster for the Mariners. Wrexham themselves had a bit of tough luck in the FA Cup, as they were knocked out by Sheffield United in the fourth round.

Nevertheless, they are at the top of the fifth-division table and will be looking to keep it that way. The Welsh side took an early lead against Chesterfield to clinch three points. Ryan Reynolds’ side is already eyeing a promotion to the fourth division.
