Last month, Wrexham star Paul Mullin suffered a gruesome lung injury against Manchester United in the Red Dragons’ pre-season tour of the USA. The severity was such that the talisman was advised to stay back in America for 10 days before being fit enough to travel.

In his free time, the Englishman has been partaking in media activities and podcast appearances. In his latest talk show appearance, Mullin vividly narrated the Wrexham co-founder’s first contact with him. He also praised the showbiz celebrity for his persuasion skills.

Paul Mullin believes Rob McElhenney would make a great salesman

28-year-old Wrexham talisman recently made an appearance at ‘The Rich Eisen Show’. In the talk show, the podcast host asked Mullin to share what attracted him the most about Rob McElhenney’s approach. In reply, the Englishman cited Rob’s humility and incredible sales acumen as the reasons. He believes that Rob would make a terrific salesman.

“Obviously, his personal life and his achievement didn’t really come into the conversation,” said Mullin. “He just wanted to sell Wrexham as the football club to me. To get me to sign, which is what he did, and he sold me the best he could. I think if he wasn’t in the job he is in, I think he could have done a good job as a salesman as his pitch was phenomenal,“ revealed the striker praising Wrexham’s co-owner.

The striker then went into detail, revealing the words pitched by McElhenney that made him make the switch from EFL to non-league football.

Mullin vividly describes the vision sold by Wrexham during initial contacts

What impressed Paul Mullin the most was the pure intentions of Wrexham’s ownership. McElhenney’s initial call hovered around achieving promotion and taking credible steps to improve the ecosystem of the town. McElhenney pitched the project as greater than football, with a legit impact on society.

“He just told me that the ultimate aim of the club is to get out of the division. Also to see the club progressing commercially with the documentary which was something I didn’t know about back then,” said Mullin. “And he explained how he was trying to get the whole club as a community and really pour time and efforts into the people of the place. Simply not just the football club,” detailed the Wrexham star.
