“Good Riddance” – After National Anthem Controversy, Retired Megan Rapinoe Torn to Shreds by Millionaire American Host Megyn Kelly

After a long and illustrious career, Megan Rapinoe announced her retirement from USWNT. The sensational soccer player dominated the game for a long time and won multiple trophies for her nation. She won the Olympic Gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics while winning two World Cups in 2015 and 2019. Thus, she leaves a legacy to remember for her country. But during the national anthem of her last game, she did not place her hand on her heart and sing the anthem. It left an American journalist fuming!

Megyn Kelly is a famous American journalist who hosts a talk show and podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, that airs daily on SiriusXM. In the show’s latest episode, Megyn ripped Rapinoe apart and scrutinized her exit from the national team.

The skillful winger stopped singing the national anthem in 2016 as a peaceful protest of inequality and injustice. As a consequence, she refrained from singing the national anthem, which created a lot of commotion in the USWNT team. It split the camp when some players followed her while others did not. Thus, Megyn expressed disappointment and anger at Rapinoe’s antics. 

She stated in her podcast, “Here’s Megan Rapinoe on her last middle finger to the United States, which made her rich, which gave her a college scholarship, which gave her $7 million a year, reportedly, in endorsements and fees for playing soccer for us on her swan song out the door.” The soccer player also accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her service to the nation and her struggle for the equal pay movement. 

With all the accolades she received, Megyn expressed her delight in seeing the soccer star leave the USWNT. She continued, “She sets a terrible example for our little girls. All I can say is thank God those girls were looking forward and not looking back at Megan Rapinoe. Let’s hope it’s true metaphorically. In addition to being an actual physical reality, because she is no role model. Good riddance!”

The National Anthem controversy!

Expected to complete the three-peat at this year’s World Cup, the USWNT failed to win the trophy amid huge expectations. But apart from the shabby performances, the team’s refusal to sing the national anthem irked many communities. Other than a few faces like Alex Morgan and Julie Ertz, some team members chose not to sing the national anthem. Therefore, Kelly had earlier criticized Rapinoe for being the instigator of the movement.

She stated in her podcast, “Megan Rapinoe, she’s the leader of all this. She’s not a starter. So that’s why she’s not on camera when they’re doing the national anthem. But she’s behind a lot of this.” Thus, Kelly looks delighted about Rapinoe’s retirement and expresses her views in the podcast. Is she right, though?
