The expectation to be the best in the world can get on any player’s nerves. Erling Haaland hit the ground running since signing for the Citizens, firing on all cylinders. However, is it only the goals that the team is looking for? Manchester City, for the last three years, has lacked nothing. Haaland is on a similar page of scoring goals as at his old club. But all the things he’s been doing don’t seem to matter, like an extra patty of burger, as per a journalist.

The 2023 European Player of the Year has already started this season on the same lines. Erling Haaland scored 9 goals in 9 games in the Premier league this season. However, some have found one factor lacking in the 22-year-old’s goals. Even though City fans may disagree, an open-minded journalist put more light on the matter.

Erling Haaland should score when it matters

Pep Guardiola became the only coach to complete two trebles in Europe. The second came with Manchester City in Haaland’s debut season. With his major trump card being a strong midfield, Haaland also became a crucial member by scoring 54 goals. However, all the goals that he scored did not matter as per the journalist Harry Brent.

Brent wrote on DailyStar, “Much like excess burger patties, what good is a boatload of goals if they come at the expense of other key ingredients?”

Brent was referring to Haaland’s goals as an excessive patty in the burger, which doesn’t bring any change to the already existing ones. Harry said that Haaland needs to score in crucial matches to be called a valuable player. Haaland was also on the same spree at Borussia Dortmund but was not able to help the German side win any trophy.

Haaland played three finals this year, including the Community Shield. The player failed to score in all the games, which may have cost the team if others hadn’t come to the rescue in the games won. Guardiola already mentioned last year that Haaland, unlike Lionel Messi, needs other players to help him score.

Haaland is similar to Cristiano Ronaldo yet not the same, says the journalist

As recently claimed by Halland, the striker does not feel the need to be involved in the possession of gameplay. Goal-scoring is the only priority for Haaland as he feels there are other players to control the midfield. Cristiano Ronaldo was similar to such a game but he would score when the team needed him, according to Harry.

He wrote, “He (Ronaldo) did little else other than scuttle between defenders, flail his arms and shoot. But, unlike Haaland, if his team needed a goal, he was, almost without exception, the man to get it.”

Haaland has been nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or. The forward also has 12 goals in this season for the Manchester team. But the criticism he is getting is for him to step up during big games. Since it’s been only a year since his arrival, fans will get an idea about his clutch performances in the upcoming season.
