Horrific Health Scare in Ukraine as Soccer Star Brought Back to Life After Being ‘Clinically Dead’ Due to Cardiac Arrest

Sunday saw another Christian Eriksen-like incident in Turkey when a Ukrainian soccer player collapsed during training. The player who was resuscitated with the help of a defibrillator is in the intensive care unit awaiting further treatment procedures and diagnosis. 

Oleh Danchenko plays for the Ukrainian Premier League Club Zorya Luhansk. He is on loan from the Greek club AEK Athens. Luhansk is in Turkey for a training camp. They played a friendly against an Uzbekistan-based club after the incident occurred.

Soccer player resuscitated apparently after his clinical death

Danchenko is a part of the Luhansk training camp in Turkey and collapsed during training before a friendly. The player suffered a cardiac arrest, as per reports from the Greek publication SKAI. The medical staff immediately ran to the scene and tried to bring back the breath of the player.

Fortunately, as per SKAI, there was a medical staff from an Austrian club on the scene with a defibrillator. He soon revived the player with the defibrillator, who lost his pulse and was clinically dead. The heart of the player stopped three times before being resuscitated.

Danchenko is in the intensive care unit. He is undergoing further treatment and diagnosis. 28-year-old lost his wife a year back in a car accident and is now struggling for his life in the hospital. His former and current clubs have wished the defender a speedy recovery.

A statement from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk says“We wish Oleh Danchenko a speedy recovery. Former player of Shakhtar have experienced clinical death at the training camp in Turkey. Stay strong. We are with you.” The player spent a few seasons at Donetsk and is now plying his trade with another Ukrainian club on loan from AEK Athens. 

The incident reminds fans of the Christian Eriksen incident

The Danish superstar suffered an identical incident during a EURO 2020 game against Finland. Eriksen collapsed during the game back in June 2021 and had to be given CPR on the pitch. 

The medical staff stabilized the player on the pitch and was hospitalized. It took over six months for the player to recover as the team and player mutually terminated the contract with his then-team- Inter. He made a comeback in February 2022 to play for the Premier League side Brentford on a free transfer. Eriksen currently plays for Manchester United and is out for months with an ankle injury.
