Soccer clubs worldwide will burn their candles from both ends in the next few weeks. With the players returning from their international duty, the focus is finally on the domestic scene. Concerning Manchester City, some interesting developments are on the horizon. The reigning Premier League champions are looking to offer a significant raise to their star goalkeeper Ederson, to fend off the interest of Al Nassr and other Saudi League pack.
The Brazilian goalkeeper—who didn’t make a single appearance in the Copa America with fellow domestic rival Alisson Becker taking the No. 1 spot—had been caught up in the rumor mill. Pocket-filled Middle Eastern clubs are still ready to give him a lucrative contract. However, City Football Group prepares for a plan to keep him at Etihad. As per the reports from The Sun, the Sky Blues will sit down with Ederson’s representatives next week and offer a near 75% rise to his current salary.
Interestingly, the 30-year-old draws a salary of $6.8 million per annum, per the numbers from Capology. Hence, a 75% raise would see him earn a salary somewhere near $12 million. This is indeed quite a substantial financial package, which will also keep him among the top earners at the club. Additionally, the latest potential deal keeps him at Manchester for the remainder of his peak years, irrespective of whether his current contract doesn’t expire before the summer of 2026.

It can’t be stressed enough what Ederson has brought to the table for Pep Guardiola and Co., having arrived in 2017. Hence, it’s only reasonable to ensure that the Brazilian player receives the treatment he deserves, which his teammate at City wants, as well.

Fresh problems arise for Manchester City over Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez is another key agenda at the headquarters of the City Football Group. As per the latest reports, the Argentinian sensation has informed his decision to leave the club this summer. However, the biggest catch for City here is that the 24-year-old has also urged City to keep his asking price ‘reasonable’. The striker fears he might fall victim to Manchester City’s demands for an unreasonably high transfer fee, keeping him on a tightrope.

Ederson's salary hike at Man City—proof that European clubs still reign supreme over Saudi ambitions?
Have an interesting take?
It is understood that Guardiola is reluctant to see the striker leave, who has been of great service to the Spaniard. Alvarez, who is coming with a Copa America 2024 victory, apparently doesn’t want to be a second fiddle after Erling Haaland. The World Cup winner would like to become a regular starter someplace else.

Either way, it remains to see whether Guardiola will pursue Alvarez to stay at the club. Perhaps they can try the method by which they are keeping Ederson.
