His loyalty to the Egypt national team was questioned when he returned to the club facilities to get his treatment done. However, the 31-year-old has given a strong reply to those who are criticizing him.
The reality is that he is very important to the chances of the national team having a chance to win AFCON. Hence, his return from the injury will have to be quick and effective.

The Egypt national team played an entertaining 2-2 draw against Ghana. Despite the valuable point, they suffered a crucial loss. Their star player, Mohamed Salah, suffered a muscle injury. However, what frustrated several fans was that he traveled to his club Liverpool’s facilities to start his recovery. Some of them did not like him making the trip in the middle of the AFCON tournament. However, days later, Mohamed Salah broke his silence regarding the issue.
Salah said, “Yesterday I started the treatment and rehabilitation program and I will do everything possible to be ready as soon as possible and return to the national team as was agreed upon from the beginning. I also love it and its people, try harder.”

Initially, the media had reported that the muscle injury would keep the Liverpool star out for one month. However, to the delight of the fans, the statement from Salah indicates that the injury will be short-term. Egypt will face DR Congo three days later in the Round of 16. After Mohamed Salah went down with an injury, former star player of the country Ahmed Hassan wanted him to stay with the team. He even criticized him for returning to Liverpool. The current boss of the national team Rui Vitoria also was furious that Klopp discussed the fitness of the 31-year-old before they played their game against Cape Verde.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp came out to publicly acknowledge any mistake he had unintentionally committed. According to a Mirror report, Klopp said, “If I said something too early, then I’m sorry. It wasn’t intentionally the wrong thing. I didn’t know the situation in that moment.”
