The Al Ittihad skipper was the talk of the town, following his team’s shambolic defeat at the hands of Cristiano Ronaldo and his men. Fans were not too pleased with Benzema’s performance as they took to social media to single out the player, holding him responsible for the team’s defeat. However, their actions have not sat down well with Benzema’s coach, who slammed the fans demanding they respect the striker.

Benzema’s coach defended the player from recent criticism, stating on social media, “You can’t blame just one player in a match. There are 11 players. It’s not a tennis match, it’s football. We are talking about one of the best players in the world with the most titles and who made history in the best team in the world (Real Madrid). Respect him.”

Karim Benzema deletes his Instagram amidst recent criticism

Things spiraled out of control this week after Al Ittihad’s defeat against Al Nassr. Fans were all over Marcelo Gallardo’s men following the defeat, with most of the objection landing in Karim Benzema’s court. Some fans took it to the extreme, labeling him ‘Ben-Hazima’, which translates to “the son of defeat” in Arabic.

It seems like word got to the Al Ittihad skipper as he’s taken some time off social media. Amidst the massive criticism, Benzema deactivated his Instagram account, leaving fans stunned. The Saudi Arabian media has also been on the player’s tail, questioning his performance following his arrival. It will be interesting to see if the player opens up on the reasoning behind his actions.
