The 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup is just around the corner. In less than a week, 32 teams will fight it out for the biggest trophy in the soccer world. Fans around the world are crazy about the tournament that happens once in four years. However, the upcoming WC has been heavily debated around the world with FIFA facing heavy criticism due to hosts Qatar. Many have questioned the host nation over its controversies in the past, with some even calling for a boycott.

With so much going on, there were rumors of Dua Lipa performing at the competition. But the three-time Grammy winner has sidelined herself from the WC and called out the host nation in her latest statement.

Many top Hollywood stars such as Dua Lipa, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift were rumored to perform at the opening ceremony of the upcoming WC. Dua Lipa, however, has revealed that she wasn’t in the negotiations and called out the host nation for his past controversies.

Dua Lipa’s statement read: “There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the world cup in Qatar. I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform. I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”

Dua Lipa’s recent statement divided fans on social media. BTS star Jeon Jung Kook will perform at the 2022 world cup. Fans of K-Pop group BTS were also upset over Dua Lipa’s statements and called her out on social media.

The ‘One Kiss’ singer ended all the rumors of her performing at the Qatar WC in a strongly worded statement. She denied all the rumors and slammed the host nation for its ‘human rights’ record. BTS and soccer fans were particularly upset with her statement. But some fans also came to her rescue and supported her on social media.

Dua Lipa previously performed at the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final’s opening ceremony. However, now the English singer will also be supporting her nation from home. England is in the same group as the United States, Wales, and Iran in the World Cup.

Dua Lipa won’t be performing in the opening ceremony, but several other top celebrities will entertain fans. K-Pop star Jeon Jung Kook has been confirmed to perform at the soccer mega-event later this week. He is also part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup official soundtrack. This is great news for all BTS fans around the world. South Korea has another representative at the WC, apart from their national team.
