Karim Benzema is currently between a rock and a hard place. The Frenchman’s domestic future with Al Ittihad has been up in the air for the past few days, as he is bound to leave the Saudi Pro League. While his exit looms within the January transfer window, reports are suggesting that he may join forces with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.

The rumours of Benzema’s exiting Al Ittihad have been around quite a lot. While they were debunked, renowned journalist Nicolo Schira reports that Benzema’s stance hasn’t changed. As per the reports, the striker still wants to leave Al-Numoo and is eager to make a return to Europe. However, Schira claims that the Saudi Arabian PIF and the SPL’s board will try to convince the striker to stay put in the Middle Eastern country and rather join another PIF-funded club.

This means that Benzema has options to play for Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli. Choosing Al Nassr would mean a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo and reignite the Real Madrid spark together. Notably, the two have shared a locker room for over nine years and won many titles as well. Additionally, a move to Al Hilal is also a brilliant opportunity, as he can play with Neymar if the Brazilian recovers quickly.

Otherwise, if he doesn’t want to share the fame with CR7 or Ney, Al Ahli is the place to go. There, he can reportedly be a perfect replacement for their outbound striker, Roberto Firmino. Nevertheless, nothing has been confirmed, but the coming days are truly decisive for Benzema, as Schira suggests.

With no proper No. 9 available at Stamford Bridge, Benzema can be a real short-term option for Mauricio Pochettino. Whatever it may be, time is running out for the Al Ittihad star. The 35-year-old already isn’t training with the squad, with coach Marcelo Gallardo invoking a ban on him. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen what happens at this stage.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
