FIFA held the FIFA Best ceremony on February 27 in Paris. They held it to honor the soccer players and managers who performed the best last calendar year. FIFA gave the awards in the categories Best Player (men and women), Best Goalkeeper (men and women), and Best Manager (men and women). Men’s Best Player was highly anticipated to be won by Lionel Messi, and he did win it.

However, Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, who was snubbed for the award, shared a cheeky Instagram story after the awards. The Ballon d’Or winner looked disappointed by the snub. He didn’t attend the ceremony despite being nominated in the top three. It was a decision by the club that players won’t attend the ceremony to prepare for the El Clasico on Wednesday.

Karim Benzema’s cheeky response to Lionel Messi winning FIFA The Best award

Karim Benzema took to Instagram after the award ceremony. He added a story to his social media account, posting a video that says, “Liar. You Lie.” He captioned the story with, “Good Night.” The cheeky response by the former French forward was one of the talking points for the fans. It looked like he anticipated the award after a great 2022.

Benzema had a fruitful 2022 with Real Madrid. He won La Liga and UEFA Champions League last year with the club. He also won Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup with the Los Blancos in 2022. To add, Benzema finished top scorer in La Liga for the 2021-22 season.

To cap off 2022, Benzema also won 2022 Ballon d’Or. France named him in the FIFA World Cup roster but had to withdraw because of an injury just days before in training. It was a setback for the Frenchman as he was back in the World Cup squad after being snubbed in 2018.

Meanwhile, it was the Argentine wizard who won the award for Best Men’s Player after the great World Cup campaign and the second half of the last year. Benzema finished third behind Messi and Kylian Mbappe. Benzema made it to the FIFPRO World XI, though.
