There are some stories, that are so bizarre they look like written fiction. Stories like how a racehorse led to the sale of one of the biggest European clubs. But, today’s story isn’t a throwback, it is a fresh out-of-the-scene story from Brazil. A mistake that almost cost a soccer club $362k. The report of this unbelievable fiction-like story is coming from Brazilian Media Outlet Globo. Fate planted the seed of this series of events during the January transfer.

22year old Joao Gomes, after playing for Flamengo FC for a couple of years, found himself in the Premier League. The deal he got was an amazing 17.7 million USD for 5.5 yrs. He has since appeared in two of Wolves’ matches. The Brazilian played for 2 seasons and Flamengo will never forget this name after what happened earlier this week.

I hadn’t even seen it, I was traveling with my godmother. It was when I arrived at her house that my mother sent a message asking about some money that Flamengo sent. I was scared and even scared because until then I didn’t know where the money was from, ,” said the 19-year-old Basketball player Joao Gomes. According to the report, Flamengo has approached the Court. They got the amount frozen as all parties agreed to the mistake that caused this monumental blunder.

The court said, “It appears, prima facie, that there was a serious error on the part of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in transferring a large amount. Of which the athlete João Victor Gomes da Silva (“João Gomes”), the different person, his namesake, is the beneficiary, with another enrolment in the Individual Taxpayer Registration. Therefore, as a logical corollary, the obligation to return the amount deposited by mistake, in the protection of objective good faith and to avoid unjust enrichment.” This decision closed out one of the heaviest blunders that could have lost a club 362,000 USD.
