Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC is closing on the Vanarama National League title. They lead the nearest rival, Notts County, by three points. Wrexham has a game in hand over County. The majority of the success of the club has come thanks to the significant goal-scoring form of Paul Mullin. The star striker recently got massive praise from the former Wrexham striker.

Steve Watkins recently gave a legend status to Mullin. Wrexham fans know Watkins for that goal against Premier League giants Arsenal. His goal secured a dramatic win for the club over Arsenal in 1992 in the third round of the FA Cup. Watkins also drew a comparison between the former goal-scoring machine for Wrexham, Gary Bennett, and Mullin, saying both are legends.

Former Wrexham star heaps praise on Paul Mullin

While speaking of Mullin, Watkins said“I’ve not missed many games this season and last season and Paul has been brilliant. Not just his goals but his work-rate for the team, he never stops running. He has been a major part of the success we’ve had this season.”

Watkins didn’t stop there. He compared the striker to former striker Bennett, who scored 77 goals for the club in the league between the 1992-93 to 1994-95 seasons. “The only possible difference you’d take from both of them is that Benno did it a couple of leagues higher up. It is difficult to choose between them who is the better player, but I think they will both go down as Wrexham legends.” said Watkin.

Paul Mullin has been in significant goal-scoring form for the last few seasons. He joined Wrexham in 2021 when Rob McElhenney called and persuaded the striker to join the club. He won the Golden Boot in League Two with Cambridge United before joining Wrexham.

He started from where he left off. Mullin won the Golden Boot again in the last season with the club in the National League. The forward is in contention to win another Golden Boot this season but will take an enormous effort from him. He will hope for his goals to help the world’s third-oldest soccer club get promotion this season to League Two after missing narrowly last time.
