The return of Kevin De Bruyne from his hamstring injury has lit up the mood in the Manchester City camp. However, Pep Guardiola will have to be very careful with their star midfielder. The 32-year-old club captain recently admitted that he is not yet fit. What does the Manchester City captain have to say about his recovery?

On January 13, Kevin De Bruyne returned to City’s lineup for the first time since August. He came on as a substitute and scored a goal and provided an assist in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United. This brought excitement to the fans as they imagined the prospect of what impact he would make from the start. But fitness is still an issue. As reported by ‘The National News’, The Belgian said, “I’d never had an injury like that, so it’s hard to say where I am in terms of total fitness of playing every three days. Fortunately, the schedule is a little bit lighter at the moment, so I have some time to get back to that [level], but I need games to get to that match fitness.”

The star midfielder added, “I was working hard when I needed to work hard and I actually enjoyed my time, doing other stuff, doing things with my family, so maybe in a way it was good that I could reset a little bit and have a bit of a break after playing that long.”

The Belgian playmaker also added that his recovery is going according to the plan. He pointed out that the break for him after the win against the Magpies has helped him. However, Bruyne could face a tough test after the action resumes. The games are going to come very quickly and will certainly test his recovery.

There is no doubt that fans would like Kevin De Bruyne to avoid injury till the end of the season. But, the 32-year-old enjoyed his time away from the soccer field for several reasons.

In the current times, many would not enjoy being out with a long-term injury. However, the case for Kevin De Bruyne was different. He said that the injury gave him a much-needed break from his busy schedule. The Sky Blues star midfielder also pointed out that he remained calm and did not take any stress about the future. He understands that one can’t control what other teams are doing. Hence, he and his team are staying focused.

“Of course the goal is to try and win everything possible, but we know that’s a difficult feat,” he shared.

During the opening day of the Premier League season, Kevin De Bruyne was forced off 23 minutes into City’s 3-0 win at Burnley with a hamstring injury. While he attempted to continue playing, he signaled to the bench moments later that he was unable to do so. Thus, he was absent for 27 City games.
